Bomb disposal experts carry out controlled explosion at Old Trafford

A controlled explosion has taken place inside Old Trafford, following a full evacuation of the stadium.

The final Premier League match of the season at the ground has been postponed after a suspect package was found in the ground.
Initially, both the Sir Alex Ferguson and Stretford End stands were evacuated.
However, at around 3pm, the decision was taken to postpone the match.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “A controlled explosion has just been carried out within the stadium by bomb disposal experts at Old Trafford.
The Army Bomb Disposal Unit are on scene to assist police at this time.
“GMP are working closely with @ManUtd to investigate a suspicious item at Old Trafford. There has been a controlled evacuation.
A club statement read: “Due to the discovery of a suspect package in the NW Quadrant of the ground, the match has been abandoned today on police advice”
The final Premier League match of the season at the ground, between Manchester United and Bournemouth, was due to kick off at 3pm.
