The Bolsover politician pointed at Mark Reckless – who clinched victory in the Rochester and Strood by-election yesterday – and accused him of wanting to deport foreigners.

Mr Skinner, 82, said that he had had a “United Nations heart bypass” carried out by a Syrian cardiologist, a Malaysian surgeon, a Dutch doctor and a Nigerian registrar.

“And these people here talk about sending them back,” screamed Mr Skinner. “Half of London would be dead in six months.”

The House of Commons erupted in applause at the former miner’s comment.

UKIP’s website states: “We believe Britain must get back control over its borders, so that it can welcome people with a positive contribution to make while limiting the overall numbers of migrants and keeping out those without the skills or aptitudes to be of benefit to the nation.”
