HISTORY experts from around the world are gathering at Bolsover Castle next weekend for a conference celebrating its most famous resident, William Cavendish.

William, the first Duke of Newcastle, inherited the castle in 1617, carrying out renovations and installing a large riding house for his horses.

History, equestrian and literary scholars from British and American universities will talk at the conference, and visitors can enjoy displays of dressage.

The event runs from 11am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, tickets £8, concessions available.
