Boiler snag derails loco

THE Doncaster-designed modern steam locomotive Tornado is out of action because of cracks in its boiler.

Cracks in the engine’s firebox were found during a routine examination, and the boiler has now been detached and sent back to its German makers.

The trust set up to build the loco was formed in Doncaster in the 1990s, with early meetings held at Doncaster Museum. The engine has been running since 2008.
