Body found in search for missing Emmerdale actor from Wirksworth

Police and mountain rescue teams searching for a missing man from Wirksworth have found a body.

The Derby team were called by Derbyshire police at around 5am on Tuesday to search for 42-year-old local man Trevor Smith, also known as Trevor Hancock, who had not been seen since 9.49pm on Monday night.

Police had become concerned for Emmerdale actor Mr Smith’s safety and called on the specialist services of mountain rescue to search disused quarries and rural areas in the local vicinity.

Sadly, a body matching the description of the missing person was located at about 11am by mountain rescue volunteers at Middle Peak quarry in Wirksworth. The body has not yet been formally identified, but the police believe it to be Mr Smith. There are no suspicious circumstances.

Twenty members of the rescue team, supported by a specialist search dog took part in the operation.

A team spokesman said: “It’s very sad that there was not a positive outcome to the search. We’d like to offer our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased person at this most difficult time.”
