Body found in car at bottom of embankment in Sheffield

Police found the body of a man in a car at the bottom of an embankment in Sheffield when he failed to turn up for work.

Officers made the grim discovery after tracking the vehicle when the 22-year-old driver was reported missing yesterday afternoon.

He had failed to turn up for work that morning.

The man, who has not yet been named, was found in his black Ford Fiesta at the bottom of an embankment off the Sheffield Parkway, between the junction for Catcliffe and the M1 motorway.

He had been travelling away from Sheffield when his car left the road.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “A 22-year-old man has been fatally injured in a collision off the Sheffield Parkway.

“A call was received by police at around 2.30pm yesterday that the man had failed to attend work that morning.

“Officers were deployed and the man and his vehicle, a black Ford Fiesta, were found shortly after at the bottom of an embankment off the Sheffield Parkway between the junction for Catcliffe and the motorway roundabout.

Paramedics pronounced the man deceased at the scene.

“Formal identification has not yet taken place however the man’s family have been informed and are receiving support.

“An investigation is underway, however at this time, there do not appear to have been any other vehicles involved in the collision.”
