Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice in North Anston has received a £5,000 grant to fund a much needed piece of equipment called an Acheeva bed.
The grant was provided via the from the Santander Foundation’s Community Plus initiative which provides grants of up to £5,000.
Due to the complex medical needs of lots of the children at the hospice, most are unable to sit in their wheelchairs or other forms of seating for long periods and need a change of position. This would mean that the children would have to stay on their beds in their rooms for long periods of time.
The Acheeva bed enables the children to stay in bed but to be in a well-supported lying position and still be able to move around as it tilts and profiles and as a whole is height adjustable, enabling the child to be included in all activities.
Claire Rintoul, Chief Executive at Bluebell Wood said: “We are so delighted to receive this donation, staff were saying how much we need an Acheeva bed for the bigger children and I’ve seen first-hand how the bed enables our Activity Co-ordinators to bring art and therapeutic activities right to the child.”
