Blomfield backs young women

Paul Blomfield, MP for Sheffield Central, has backed calls for apprenticeships to work better for young women.

Mr Blomfield signed the Early Day Motion, entitled Female Apprentices, following a report published by the charity Young Women’s Trust, to coincide with National Apprenticeships Week in March.

According to Making Apprenticeships Work Better for Young Women. female apprentices are missing out at every stage of apprenticeships and will continue to do so unless urgent action is taken by employers and the government.

The report found women apprentices receive less pay, less training and are concentrated in just half the sectors of male apprentices.

An inquiry is now being undertaken.
