Blaze causes M1 closure near Sheffield

The southbound carriageway of the M1 near Sheffield is closed while emergency services deal with a blaze.

The Highways Agency said the fire involves a car towing a caravan, which went up in flames on the southbound stretch of the motorway between junction 33 at Catcliffe and junction 32 at Thurcroft.

A Highways Agency spokesman said: "Traffic is advised to exit the M1 at junction 33 and take the A630 westbound towards Sheffield.

"At the junction with the A57, take the A57 eastbound towards Aston and re-join the M1 southbound at junction 31.

"Road users are advised to expect delays and to allow extra time for their journeys."
