Blackpool defender high on Rotherham United wanted list

Rotherham United are understood to be the frontrunners to secure the centre-back’s signature, despite the player also meeting with Sunderland, on a free transfer.

It is believed Robertson, whose contract at Bloomfield Road expires at the end of the month, is eager for a step up to the Championship in order to fulfil his ambition of playing for Scotland.

Warne is eager to add around six players as soon as possible as the Millers prepare for a return to the Championship.

Of those six, Warne has expressed a goalkeeper, a right-back and a centre-half are at the top of his wishlist.

And it is believed a deal for Robertson could be finalised by the end of the week, with the transfer window officially opening on July 1.

The 24-year-old was one of the standout performers in League One last season and was awarded the Seasiders’ Player of the Year Award.

Robertson spearheaded the defence to 12 clean sheets and scored three goals in his 40 appearances last season.

The player started his career at Scottish Premiership club Aberdeen before making the move to Bloomfield Road in 2015.

Since moving to England, he has played 137 times for Blackpool and was a key figure in the side which secured promotion from League Two in the 2016/17 campaign.

Fleetwood’s Cian Bolger has also been linked with a move to South Yorkshire, but would cost considerably move than Robertson.

Meanwhile, KCM Waste Management have extended their North Stand sponsorship deal with the Millers.

The company, who have sponsored the stand since the stadium was opened in 2012, have signed a three-year deal to have their branding around the North Stand of the AESSEAL New York Stadium.
