Bishops want asylum in UK for Iraq refugees

Have your say

Bishop of Sheffield the Rt Rev Dr Steven Croft, and Bishop of Doncaster the Rt Rev Peter Burrows, have made a joint statement pleading for UK asylum for people fleeing the crisis in Iraq.

“Like many, we have been moved by the desperate plight of Christians and other minorities fleeing persecution in Iraq over the last months and by the dreadful suffering there,” they said.

“We both add our support to the calls of the Archbishops of Canterbury and York in asking that the government grant asylum and offer sanctuary to the thousands of Christians fleeing the extremist regime in northern Iraq.”

France and Germany have already offered asylum.
