Birds still need a little help in the spring, experts warn

A Sheffield garden centre is offering a helping hand to feeding and breeding birds.

Ferndale Garden Centre, established in 1982 on the site of Whitethornes Nursery at Coal Aston, is warning that even though it is spring, birds still need help.

Director of Ferndale Neil Grant said: “It’s common to think there is plenty of food around when the weather is so much milder than the usual snow of winter, but actually, it’s still important to keep putting food out for garden birds.”

The RSPB advise year- round feeding so that the birds get used to your garden food, especially when they are nesting and need high energy foods such as sunflower seeds.

You can now buy affordable nest boxes with integrated cameras which beam live footage of chicks to your TV.
