Biomass boiler plan likely to be approved despite green belt concerns

Councillors have been urged to approve plans to install a biomass boiler at a Sheffield farm despite concerns from neighbours.

MHH Biomass wants to use the boiler at Prospect Farm in Kirk Edge Road, High Bradfield.

The boiler would burn recycled woodchip in order to dry aggregates, which would then be supplied to the construction industry.

A number of nearby residents have objected to the plans, citing concerns about industrialisation of the green belt.

But with a decision due on Tuesday, Sheffield Council planning officers have recommended the plans be approved.

A report to councillors said: “Officers remain satisfied that the installation of the biomass boiler would not result in any significant impact on air quality or noise disturbance that would be harmful to the residential amenity of neighbouring properties.”
