Billy Sharp warns Sheffield United to cut out the mistakes

Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp has warned his teammates they must tighten up defensively if they are to keep their dream of promotion alive this season.

Sharp was the catalyst for a dramatic turnaround at Wigan on Tuesday, as United came from 3-0 down to register a point after a 3-3 draw.

Sharp got on the scoresheet with his fifth goal in as many League One games, sandwiched between Matt Done’s brace, and the Sheffield-born striker said: "We were delighted to get a point but we can’t be giving three goals away.

"If you come to Wigan away and score three, then you should be winning the game.

"So it’s frustrating but, from 3-0 down, you’ll always be happy with a point.

"At three down, you have nothing to lose I guess - you might as well lose by five. So we were a bit more adventurous and committed men forward, while Wigan sat back because they thought they’d won the game.

"We did so well to get a point but we need to cut the errors out."

Sharp almost capped the turnaround with a late winner, only to be denied spectacularly by Jussi Jaaskelainen.

"I thought it was in," Sharp added.

"But we’re delighted to get a draw and hopefully it’s a turning point. We are chasing it a little bit at the minute, and we need to start winning games... and quickly."
