On Sunday, August 16, Shiregreen Cricket Club hosted the final of the prestigious Billy Oates Cup. This is a trophy, donated by Billy’s family, to honour the name of a great cricketer and gentleman.
Members of his family were present and kindly presented the trophies.
The match was between Wentworth and Shiregreen 2nd XI and was a credit to both teams, who provided a very entertaining match. Shiregreen eventually won, but Wentworth can be very proud of their efforts.
The match was played in the right spirit, as most cricket is, and the spectators must have appreciated the talent and effort of both teams.
This is the third year in succession that Shiregreen have won the trophy.
What a great advert this game was for local cricket and amateur sport.
