In the first episode Chuck Rhoades, a powerful US Attorney for the Southern District of New York, is made aware of a case of insider trading with links to billionaire hedge fund king Bobby ‘Axe’ Axelrod.

While it could be a career-defining case for Chuck, he must tread carefully, because his wife, Wendy (Maggie Siff, Mad Men), is the in-house performance coach at Axe Capital and Axe’s key confidante. But a costly purchase by Axe gives Chuck the opening he needs, setting off a cat-and-mouse game where the stakes are high and intensely personal.

Here’s a snak preview of what’s happening in episodes two, three and four:

Chuck discovers that while he pursued Steven Birch, the rival Eastern District has made inroads in the Axe case. Meanwhile, Axe makes an activist play for a family owned bakery corporation – a move that reverberates back to Chuck by way of a very personal connection. Elsewhere, Wendy is thrown into a moral dilemma during a confidential session as Axe’s wife Lara (Malin Åkerman) tries to protect her husband’s reputation from a potentially damaging ‘tell all’ book.

Axe installs rigorous compliance measures to bring the company in line with the US Attorney’s office investigation. When Wendy questions Axe’s methods, he insists that she prove her loyalty. Chuck’s probe is temporarily derailed when he has to divert resources to a case against one of Axe’s rivals, billionaire Steven Birch (Jerry O’Connell). Hall (Terry Kinney), Axe’s fixer, cultivates a mole inside the US Attorney’s office, while Axe makes an aggressive move under the guise of a charitable contribution in order to settle an old score.

Short Squeeze
