Biker seriously hurt in lamppost crash

POLICE are appealing for information after a motorcyclist was seriously hurt in Sheffield.

The 25-year-old suffered fractures to his right arm and leg in the crash on Grimesthorpe Road, Burngreave.

His bike is believed to have left the road and hit a lamppost close to the Wood Hill Grange Nursing Home on Thursday, at about 2.50pm, as he rode along Grimesthorpe Road towards Pitsmoor.

Anyone who information is asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 572 of March 8.

Motorway closed

MOTORISTS faced long delays after the M1 was closed near Barnsley following a serious incident.

Drivers were warned to stay clear of the road on Sunday afternoon after it was closed due to a spillage of highly-inflammable liquid propane.

Police closed the road between Junction 36 at Tankersley and Junction 37 at Barnsley after a tanker carrying the gas overturned shortly before noon.

They then enforced a 1,000m cordon around the scene to ensure it did not ignite.

At one point, southbound traffic was queueing back to Leeds, while northbound queues stretched back to Junction 34 at Meadowhall.

Diversions were in operation until the motorway reopened shortly before 7pm following an investigation into the accident.

A HOUSE on Rushdale Road, Meersbrook, Sheffield, was broken into when a set of French doors were smashed to get inside.

And a car was stolen from Overend Drive, Gleadless Valley, Sheffield, after a pane of glass was smashed to get the keys inside.

Police are investigating.

Prowler arrested

AN ARREST was made after the South Yorkshire Police helicopter spotted a prowler wandering around Westfield in Sheffield trying to open car doors.

Officers on the ground were directed to the suspect by staff in the air.

Fuel theft suspect

A SUSPECT thought to have been stealing diesel from lorries parked in a layby at Flouch was spotted by the county’s police helicopter and found by a police dog on the ground.
