Biker killed in link road M-way crash

A MOTORCYCLIST has died after a head-on collision with a car on a link road leading to a Doncaster motorway.

Debris from the horrific crash also caused injuries to a second rider who was travelling with the dead man on another bike.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the fatal collision on the Westmoor Link at Armthorpe about 8.43am yesterday, around 200 metres west of the junction with Yorkshire Way.

A red Nissan Almera car was travelling along the A630 towards Junction 4 of the M18 and was in the process of overtaking slower vehicles when it collided with a blue Suzuki SV1000 motorcycle ridden by an Armthorpe man. The car collided with the Suzuki and debris also hit a the rider of a Harley-Davidson Sporters motorbike travelling behind, throwing the rider from the machine.

The rider of the Suzuki, a 41-year-old, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the collision but has not yet been named by police.

The Harley-Davidson was being ridden by a 53-year-old woman from Edenthorpe who broke her right collar bone and was taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary, where she was treated and later discharged.

Also taken to hospital were the driver of the Almera, a 42-year-old man from Scunthorpe, and his front seat passenger, a 22-year-old woman also from Scunthorpe. Both had minor injuries.

Police are urging witnesses to contact the South Yorkshire Police Accident Witness Line on 0114 220 2970.

Doncaster Coroner Stanley Hooper has been informed of the death and is expected to open an inquest later this week.

The fatality occurred just eight days after two men from Swinton were killed when their motorbikes collided with a car while returning from a trip to the East Coast through Swinhope, near Market Rasen in Lincolnshire.
