A SHEFFIELD fundraiser is going for a walk in the countryside but it’s not as easy as it sounds – she’s walking a mammoth 60km for charitable causes in the city.
Carita Thomas will be striding across the South Downs in May as part of the 2011 ‘Just Walk’ event and plans to complete the 37-mile trek in one go – which could take 18 hours.
The 30-year-old is risking blisters to raise funds for ASSIST, a Sheffield charity which helps keep destitute asylum seekers off the streets, and asylum seekers campaign organisation CADOS. She’ll be one of up to 1,400 people undertaking the challenge to raise cash for various causes.
Carita, a solicitor, said: “I’ve never walked this far before.”
