Bombs away! Contestants from across the country took the plunge at the ninth annual World Water Bombing Championships in Sheffield – and all in a very good cause.
Ten teams of four took the plunge at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.
And what a soggy splash- filled spectacle this year’s event made.
Teams from as far afield as Buckinghamshire bombed from the three metre platform in an array of weird and wonderful fancy dress outfits including the Village People, Scooby-Doo, clowns pirates and the cast of Grease.
Each team needed to raise a minimum of £376 in sponsorship for Macmillan Cancer Support – the equivalent of funding a Macmillan Nurse for two days.
The event was sponsored by Matthew Twigg Foods – suppliers of Pukka Pies.
Richard Apps, general manager of Ponds Forge, said: “The World Water Bombing Championships is a fantastic event which we are extremely proud to host.
“Last year the event raised around £7,000 and we hope this year’s teams can top that total for Macmillan.
Entrants were awarded points for stylish entry, as well as the height and width of splash after the bomb.
