HOMELESSNESS charity Emmaus is looking for a volunteer to take the wobble out of its latest venture.
The charity, based in the historic Sipelia Works close to Sheffield’s canal basin, gives formerly homeless people somewhere safe to live and to rediscover their dignity through work.
One its most successful funding streams is its second hand and vintage store at Sipelia Works – and one of the things many supporters donate is unwanted bicycles.
But Emmaus now needs a volunteer who can make those bikes roadworthy and ready for sale – and train the charity’s resident companions to do the same work.
“Unless a bike is completely roadworthy, we are usually having to sell it for scrap which is a real shame,” said manager Graham Bostock.
“Most of the bikes simply need some basic work doing to them so we would love to hear from anybody who has just a little time to spare – even an hour a week would mean a lot to us.”
