Betts slams housing plan

CLIVE Betts has slammed a suggestion that council house tenants should lose their security of tenure if they move.

The Sheffield South East MP criticised the idea, proposed by Liberal Democrat Communities Minister Andrew Stunell in Parliament.

Mr Betts said: “This is a double whammy, particularly for elderly tenants. They are already facing cuts in their housing benefit to try to force them to move to a smaller home. Now they are told if they move they will lose their security of tenure which could lead to their new smaller home being taken off them.”
