SHEFFIELD MP Clive Betts has asked for investigations by the Government into ‘inflation-busting’ increases in telephone charges.
The Sheffield South East Labour MP has written to Business Secretary, Vince Cable, and said: “I have asked him to refer these issues to the Office of Fair Trading and to the Competition Commission so they can launch an investigation into telecoms suppliers and, particularly, the nature and impact of these latest announcements of way-above-inflation increases in line rental charges.”
Sky announced it will increase line rental charges by more than seven times inflation from December.
BT has announced a rise in line rental charges £14.60 a month to £15.45 from January.
Virgin and TalkTalk have already implemented increases in line rental charges.
Mr Betts said: “What is the justification for these inflation-busting increases?”
