Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo said his team deserved a win over Sheffield Wednesday that would have taken his title-winning side beyond the 100-point mark.

Wolves couldn’t break down a defensively-assured Owls team and when they did manage to find a way through on rare occasions, the champions failed to find a way past the impressive Cameron Dawson in the Wednesday goal.

Nuno said his was the better team and the big crowd that showed up should have been celebrating another victory.

"I think we deserved to win against Sheffield Wednesday, he said. “We had chances to win and we have one more game to finish well.

"We had to be clinical but the performance was good. Now we have to go and play Sunderland and then we will think about the future [in the Premier League].

"I think this season deserves to end with a win. We must feel the taste of winning because it is what we have been doing all season."

On the occasion, the boss said: "It is a special day. A fantastic day. When you get something that is material and you can hold on to that is when you feel you are champions.

"I think we were the better team in the competition, more consistent and we deserved it after the hard work of the boys. It is a day that I will always remember.

"All the support throughout the season, here at Molineux and all the stadiums has been fantastic.

"But especially today after the game had finished they celebrated with us it was fantastic day for us in our memory."
