Better deal for children in care

CHILDREN in care in Derbyshire are to receive more support through a new £1.11 million county council scheme designed to improve their lives.

Councillors have approved the funding for the Unifi project – a pilot scheme in the national Creative Councils programme – to help children in care do better at school, go to university if they want and increase the number of care leavers in employment, education or training.

The scheme could also help save more than £5 million a year of public money in a decade’s time if it proves successful by reducing the amount spent on programmes aimed at adults.
