Bethany won tallest sunflower award

But the youngster is now walking tall after it won the tallest sunflower category, at the Barnsley in Bloom awards.

Bethany was one of the many winners of this year’s event, who all picked up their accolades from Mayor Len Picken, during a presentation evening at Cannon Hall Garden Centre. Awards were given out for 16 categories, including best child-friendly garden, best vegetable garden and best planter or basket display.

Housing management company Berneslai Homes has organised the competition since it was launched in 2003 and it is sponsored by Cannon Hall Garden Centre and Barnsley Chamber.

Berneslai Homes housing management director Mark McGee said: “We had a very good response and the overall standard was excellent.”
