Berge faces a big few days of action as Tigers face Rye House at Owlerton tomorrow and then rides in the World Under-21 at Belle Vue on Saturday.

“It hasn’t always been easy but I’m very grateful to everyone who has given me a chance so far, especially in the UK,” he said.

“I will always be thankful to the people at Glasgow for giving me my first real chance at only 17. I started things really well and to say it was my first experience of proper competitive racing and my first real experience in a professional club I was very happy.

“Unfortunately for me and the team, I crashed out just a few months into the season and that put an end to my season. I went back in 2015 but I felt I should have been given a longer chance to get my form back.

“I had a badly broken arm in 2014. My confidence had been a bit low but I just needed a full season of racing.

“But I have to remember Redcar as well for signing me at a time when I wasn’t at the top of my game, I wasn’t in good form scores wise and mentally and physically I knew I needed to get myself back to the right place. They were great and they supported me for the rest of the 2015 season.

“Now I am here at Sheffield and I am happy to be here, it’s a good club with good supporters and management and the track is always good.”

Berge is relishing the prospect of his first trip to the new National Speedway Stadium in Manchester for Saturday’s World U21 meeting. He said: “I’ve seen videos and pictures of the new stadium and for me it’s quite mythical. The track is super too. I am sure the venue has been worth waiting for and I’m looking forward to racing on it.

“As always I will give it my everything; I would love just to qualify though and then I can focus on the rest of the Championships.”
