INVESTIGATORS have snared a woman working at a care home whilst fraudulently claiming more than £5,000 in benefits.

Helen Read, aged 35, of Rhodes Cottages, Clowne, pleaded guilty to failing to declare she was working whilst claiming income support and council tax benefit.

She was prosecuted after a joint investigation by Bolsover Council and the Department for Work and Pensions.

North East Derbyshire and Dales Magistrates’ Court sentenced her to 140 hours unpaid work.

Read was also ordered to repay costs of £100 at £5 per week and she will also have to repay all the benefits she was not entitled to.
