Bell-ringing to welcome head

A NEW headteacher was welcomed into his role with a traditional bell-ringing.

Giuseppe Di’Iasio has joined Wales School in Kiveton Park as its latest leader.

Two Year Seven pupils Michael Dykes and Eleanor Holmes rang the school bell - which dates back to 1872 and brings the first full school assembly of each school year to a close - to officially welcome him.

Mr Di’Iasio, who replaces former headteacher John Day, said: “Having lived and taught locally for several years, I am aware of the long established excellent reputation Wales has acquired for having the highest standards and being recognised as an outstanding school.

“I am immensely proud to have been given the opportunity to work with the students, staff, parents and governors of Wales.”

The bell, used in the original village school, was donated by the National Coal Board in 1978.
