Friends and family gathered to celebrate the birthday of a Sheffield hero - and boy did they have a great time.
Each year, hundreds of people descend on The Fox Inn, Beighton, on what would have been Corporal Liam Riley’s birthday.
Killamarsh Corporal Riley was serving with the Coldstream Guards in the Babaji district of central Helmand province when he was killed in action in 2010 as he tried to rescue a fallen colleague. Liam’s bravery and gallant actions were mentioned in despatches.
Every year since, on the Saturday nearest his birthday, there has been a party in Beighton, the village where Liam grew up. And every year the event raises funds for Help4Heroes.
This year, for what would have been Liam’s 25th birthday, crowds basked in bright sunshine as bands played and footballers competed for the Liam Riley Memorial Trophy. The winning team included Liam’s older brother Jonjo, who said: “I am extremely proud to have won.”
