It’s hoped more than 2,000 people will take part and with the event already heading towards a sell out - POW, the world record is on.

To take part, superhero fans have been urged to get tickets to Yorkshire Cosplay Con - at Sheffield Arena this weekend - dress up as a superhero and have their photo taken on entry, to verify entry then listen out for a special announcement inside the arena at about 1.30pm on Saturday.

A short video clip will then be filmed to prove it happened.

But the costume police will be on patrol to ensure fans are properly dressed for the world record action.

A recognised superhero is one that has been used in a published book, comic, television programme or film. But this attempt does not include Anime characters.

To qualify, each costume must be a full head-to-toe representation of the chosen superhero.

The attempt is open to participants of all ages but it can take several months to be officially verified by Guinness World Records.

This is a fundraiser managed by Hallam FM’s Cash for Kids charity, which supports sick and disadvantaged children across South Yorkshire.

Yorkshire Cosplay Con, now in its sixth year, is taking place on both Saturday and Sunday.

Cosplaying - or costume play - is for everyone; from little children in fancy dress, to adults who want to embrace an alter-ego and people who want to pretend to be someone else for a day, or just to dress up.

A Yorkshire Cosplay spokesman said of the world record bid: “We will collate as much evidence as possible to provide to them to prove that the event took place and if the record was broken.

“Whatever the outcome from this Guinness World Records decision is final. They are entitled to disqualify individual participants or the entire attempt.”

“We want to help Cash For Kids raise £2,000. A minimum £1 donation per person taking part can help do this. You can make the donation as you have your photo taken on entry at their desk. Photos taken on the day will be available after the event.”

Tickets start at £9 on 0114 256 5656 and at www.sheffieldarena.co.uk
