BIG and beautiful – Majestic Neapolitan mastiff River is yearning for a new home in Sheffield.
RSPCA Sheffield branch animal care manager Tony Benham said: “River is around six years old. She was brought into the centre after being found tied to a fence, with a large growth on her ribcage, which has now been resolved with antibiotics. “A giant, boisterous bundle of joy, she will need continued basic training to increase her doggy manners.
“But she’s a delightful dog who loves her toys, people and to play. We haven’t spotted anything that this gentle giant likes to avoid – she’s an unfussy eater and she loves interacting with the world and everyone in it.
“Although large dogs, Mastiffs don’t particularly bark a lot. They are very intelligent and independent thinkers.
“They learn quickly, which is both good and bad, because you have to make sure they are picking up the right habits. Any new owner will need to be consistent and positive in their training methods to keep this big beauty on the right track.
“With a dog that is the size of a small human, you definitely want to be guiding them with verbal instructions such as clicker training with treats. If River’s potential new home has kids, we’d advise that they are over the age of 14. We believe she would be fine with another dog but she will need a gentle introduction.” River will need at least two 30-minute walks every day.
