WEATHER ALERT: Big freeze to bring risk of 'significant snow' to YorkshireA huge high pressre weather systrem - nicknamed the 'Beast from the East' - is building over much of northern Europe and will funnel freezing cold air over the continent.

During the course of the weekend temperatures will start to plummet in the UK and that trend will continue into next week.

The latest Met Office forecast for Sheffield predicts bitterly cold temperatures setting in from Sunday.

When the wind chill is taken into account temperatures will be around -4C on Sunday.

On Monday it will be even colder still with the wind chill making it feel like -5C during the day.

And on Tuesday temperatures will struggle to get above a numbing -6C during the daytime.

The freezing cold temperatures will bring with them the risk of ice and snow and some forecast models show the cold snap lasting well into March.
