BBL Cup match report: DBL Sharks Sheffield 57 Glasgow Rocks 69

In a tight game, a strong final quarter from the Rocks secured a semi-final meeting with the Surrey Scorchers.

Inaccuracies from the Sharks early on allowed the Rocks to race into a 0-7 lead before Colin Sing got the home side off the mark, and Cardell McFarland and latest signing Rashawn Rembert kept the Sharks within five points, the score 14-19 at the end of the quarter.

The Sharks hit the ground running at the start of the second, scoring seven unanswered points to tie the game, before Tony Wroblicky put them in front for the first time. New shooting guard Rembert didn’t miss in the first 20 minutes, keeping the score to 30-33 at the half.

The tight affair continued into the third quarter, with the Rocks pulling out a lead before being pegged back again. A steal and assist from Wroblicky allowed McFarland to edge the home side ahead once more before the Rocks came roaring back, Gareth Murray crucially putting the away side into a 47-49 lead at the end of the third period.

From there, however, the Rocks put together a 14-point scoring run, ending the Sharks’ hopes.

Sharks head coach Atiba Lyons said: “I think Glasgow played well defensively. I think we did our best to space the floor out a bit and take advantage of what we were given, but we just didn’t have some crucial time for shots to fall for us.

“We might have been a bit tired, a lot of guys played a lot of minutes.

“Rashawn Rembert was great. When you bring someone in to shoot the ball and score the ball and they do, it’s what you want to see.”
