A Women’s Institute centenary baton arrives in Bolsover next month as it travels the length and breadth of the UK to celebrate 100 years of the organisation.

A vintage-themed party will be held Bolsover Castle from 3pm to 5.30pm on Wednesday, June 18, to mark the occasion.

The baton is visiting 69 WI federations to celebrate the links of friendship and community developed through the organisation.

President of Bolsover WI Rachel Albanese said: “Each federation, including Bolsover, is uploading twelve selected photos to a memory stick stored within the baton to represent their members, WIs, and the local area.

“The images will be shared on social media to keep everyone in touch and so that members across the country can join in.”

Rachel added: “The aim is to involve as many members as possible in the biggest ever WI party.”

Bolsover WI was set up last year and already has 60 members.

Children from New Bolsover Primary School will open the event with maypole dancing.
