Barren Barnsley spell will end soon, vows Jackson

The Reds have failed to score in their last two outings. Jackson and co were held by a resilient Wigan side on Saturday. And the former Middlesbrough man believes they deserved all three points.

“The positive is that we’re creating those chances and we’ll get goals eventually,” said Jackson, who came to Oakwell as a replacement for Alfie Mawson. Another day it could have been four or five nil but unfortunately we couldn’t find one. We deserved to win. We dominated, had more chances, more of the ball and it was just unfortunate not to get a goal. Robbo [Marc Roberts] and I didn’t have much to do.”

Jackson has been at the heart of a Reds’ defence that has kept a trio of clean sheets in their last four games.

The first two came alongside fellow summer signing Angus MacDonald, before Roberts came back into the side for the Latic’s trip across the Pennines. And he is thankful for the help the duo have given him. “They’ve both been brilliant and helped me a lot” he said. “They’ve talked me through games because I’m new to this league. Robbo and I didn’t have much to do but we had to make sure our concentration was there in case of a counter.

“They’re both great players and I enjoy playing alongside both of them.”

Jackson stepped up when Roberts was injured and he looks to have cemented his place in the side. His five games so far this term are his first taste of Championship football, after a loan spell at League Two’s Hartlepool last season.

And he is enjoying his time in the second tier of English football. “I’m really enjoying it here and making the step up,” said Jackson.

“Obviously I want to play every game but I know competition for places is high.

“As long as the gaffer has faith in me then hopefully I can repay that by continuously progressing.”
