Barnsley's survival hopes in the '˜hands of God'

It’s do-or-die for the Reds on the final day of the season. Victory assures them another Championship campaign, but anything less will leave them relying on other results to go their way.

Speaking exclusively to the Star, Morais said: “It’s in our own hands but if we don’t win then it’s in the hands of God. It’s a huge game for us, we know what we need to do.

“In my managerial career the game’s as big as the one we played last week for example.”

Meanwhile, Morais heaped praise on the Star’s Barnsley Player of the Year Liam Lindsay.

In his first season in England after coming down from Scotland, Lindsay was awarded the gong as well as the club’s Players’ Player of the year.

The Portuguese gaffer added: “I’m delighted he’s winning awards because he’s had a fantastic season.

“He’s a sensible, young lad. He’s 23-years-old but he works so hard. He’s realised that football is more than just training and playing, he’s trying to be an influence on the rest of the team too.”

Despite the plaudits, Morais would love for the in-form central defender to be more vocal on the pitch.

He said: “Playing in central defence we’d like him to be a little louder and be able to lead the defensive line. He’s not yet like that but he’s learning. His understanding of the game is good and so is his ability. He’s realised that there’s more to football than just training and playing, it’s also about helping others be their best.

“But to do that you need to be louder and hopefully going forward he can do that.

“He’s a really good team-mate and a great influence to have in the dressing room.

“But, he’s a bit shy and we’d like him to talk a little bit more.”
