The central midfielder has been a key member of the squad since joining Oakwell on a short-term basis in January.

Despite this, the Reds have missed the midas touch of Conor Hourihane - and they have not won since beating his new side Aston Villa on Valentine’s Day.

That victory was seven games ago, but James feels the results have not reflected the side’s performances.

“The wins will come soon enough, it’s the shooting that’s letting us down at the moment,” admitted James, who has scored once since moving from Premier League championship Leicester City.

“We’ve been in all the games but if you don’t take your chances, you’re not going to win football games.

“Chances are being created and when you’re creating chances, you’re going to have times when you’re going to win and times when you don’t and lose games.

“The positive thing for this team is that the chances are being created at this end and hopefully we can just stop the threat from the other team and climb a little bit.”

The Reds failed to find the back of the net at Norwich City on Saturday as their winless run stretched to six games.

A plethora of chances went begging at Carrow Road, and James admitted the squad was left frustrated that they did not manage to at least secure a point.

He added: “It’s frustration in the dressing room that we got nothing out of the game.

“I think in the end we certainly had enough chances to get something from the game.

“We were getting caught in too many minds, the gaps were a little bit too big and I think it’s not that they caused us an issue, we just didn’t get it right.”
