Barnsley: Walton confident Reds will get job done on Sunday

The Reds kept their survival hopes alive with an impressive victory over, then-play-off chasing Brentford last weekend.

Barnsley’s equation is simple, beat Derby and remain in the Championship - it is as simple as that.

Their goal difference is hugely superior to relegation rivals Bolton Wanderers and Burton Albion so victory will secure their second-tier status.

“We’ve never doubted ourselves and it’s in our own hands when we go to Derby,” stressed Walton.

“We’ve got one more massive game, and cup final and we can win it.

“If we win it, we stay up. We’re confident we can do a job on Sunday.

“We had to win, there’s no point results elsewhere going our way if we don’t do the job ourselves.”

Beating Brentford put the Reds in the prime position to stay up.

And Walton reflected: “It was all the result, it was all about the three points, that’s all that matters.

“We had two massive games to play, we’ve won one of them and we’ve now got to win the other one.

“The fans really got behind us. They were so loud and that helped us because they were like a 12th man.

“The lads were excellent, defended for their lives and we could have gone and won it with a few more goals.

“We’re got a lot of character in the side and we believe together, as a team.

“We’ve put a performance out there for the fans for our last home game.”

Meanwhile, Oli McBurnie picked up the club’s Player of the Year award despite only joining Oakwell in January.

McBurnie has scored nine goals to keep Barnsley in the hunt for survival.

Defender Liam Lindsay swooped the Players’ Player Award, whilst Ben Williams grabbed was voted Young Player of the Year.

Joe Williams’ wonderstrike against Burton deservedly pocketed the Goal of the Year Award.
