A Barnsley volunteer group has won a national award.

The Trans Pennine Trail conservation volunteers (TPTcv), who carry out practical work on the Trans Pennine Trail between Penistone and Dunford Bridge, were selected as winners of the national Sustrans Volunteer Group of the Year award for 2015.

They instal picnic tables and information boards, pick up litter, support wild flower meadows and cut back trees.

Sustrans is a leading UK charity which promotes and enables people to travel by foot, bike or public transport for more of the journeys made every day.

Kate Dobson, who set up TPTcv, said: “The volunteers have worked hard to make this part of the Trans Pennine Trail welcoming and attractive.”
