Barnsley volunteer notches up 31 years

Have your say

A man who spent nearly 40 years working on the railway took early retirement and embarked on another journey – and has now notched up 31 years as a Neighbourhood Watch volunteer.

Tony Dutton, aged 74, from Wombwell, Barnsley, started the Barlborough Road group in 1983 and is now a Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinator.

Last year alone, he helped distribute 2,000 personal and home alarms.

He has also given out more than 100 reflective armbands to youngsters at High View School and talked to them about road, cycle and scooter safety.

The great grandfather of eight, with another three on the way, is promoting Neighbourhood Watch Week.
