Barnsley: Sweet moment for Tom Bradshaw in Barnsley's fine victory over Aston Villa

All of his uncles are huge Villa fans, and the Welshman used to go and watch them as a kid.

But, all family loyalties were put to one side on Tuesday night as the 24-year-old netted his sixth and seventh goals of the season either side of the break at Villa Park.

“All of my uncles are Villa fans,” said Bradshaw. “I’ll definitely be giving them a bit of stick.

“It was such a special night for me because most of my family are Villa fans.

“I was forced to be a Villa fan as a kid, but I started to swing towards Manchester United when I was about seven.

“There was always the pressure to be a Villa fan from the family when I was younger.

“I probably went to 10 or 15 games with my uncles in their glory days when they were finishing in the top half of the Premier League.”

The Barnsley faithful were hoping former favourite Conor Hourihane was not going to come back to haunt them.

And their former skipper proved to be largely ineffective as the Reds ran riot.

Other than the result, the most pleasing thing for head coach Paul Heckingbottom and co is that both Bradshaw and Adam Armstrong got on the scoresheet.

Since star striker Sam Winnall, and his 11 goals, jumped ship to Sheffield rivals Wednesday, the Reds had only scored five times in the seven games prior to the trip to Villa - with three of those goals coming at Leeds United.

If the Oakwell club are to make a last-ditch surge towards the Championship play-offs then those two are going to have to find the back of the net with the same regularity as Winnall did.

Bradshaw said: “Obviously I would have wanted more goals than I currently have. The figure I’m on is a bit lower than what I would have been aiming for.”
