Barnsley striker Kieffer Moore could return for Luton clash admits No.2 Andreas Winkler

The Reds' demolition job of Peterborough last weekend was soured by an ankle-ligament problem sustained by the former Ipswich striker.

Moore, who has scored seven goals this season, was forced off after just 36 minutes and left London Road in a brace.  

Despite not knowing the severity of the injury, Winkler is hanging onto any hope that Moore may feature at Oakwell.  

'We have excellent medical staff and they are doing everything for him,' the German said.

'I am not sure at this moment (on the extent of his injury). Our physiotherapists, have worked for many days and hours trying to get him fit. That is all I can say.'

Moore's absence would be another blow to a Barnsley squad already missing skipper Adam Davies and Kenny Dougall, while left-back Dani Pinillos is still a doubt through injury.

Goalkeeper Davies and midfielder Dougall are away on international duty with Wales and Australia respectively for the visit of the Hatters.

Winkler is confident Moore can be replaced, with Victor Adeboyejo and Jacob Brown options to lead the line, but Cauley Woodrow is still a week away from a return.

'We are very happy and have a good squad and can choose from the squad,' he said.

'There is not only Victor and Jacob, there are some more strikers. Cauley will come back - not for Saturday, but next week I think - and we will have some more options.'

Barnsley produced a real statement of intent by hammering second-placed Posh on their home turf, moving to within five points of leaders Portsmouth with a game in hand.

The Reds now host a Luton side that are eighth in the table following a five-match unbeaten run.  

And Winkler is aware of the threat the Hatters pose, saying: 'They are on a good run now.

'They got promoted last season and they have some match-winners in the squad. They have a good plan, they stick to it, so it is a strong team.

'It will be a strong match for us. They have two players who used to play for Barnsley, so they will give more than 100 per cent, but that is good.

'Every player in the squad knows this will not be an easy match. We have to start winning again, playing from the first minute to get the three points.'
