Barnsley residents urged to get involved in volunteering month

People in Barnsley are being urged to show they love where they live by getting involved in volunteering month in June.

Led by the Love Where You Live project, events include, litter picks, horticulture, community events and volunteer open days. One of the events is a volunteer open day, where you can find out more about volunteering opportunities, at Elsecar Heritage Railway on Sunday, June 5, from 11.30am to 3pm.

Councillor Jenny Platts, Barnsley Council’s cabinet spokesperson for communities, said: “Volunteering month is a great opportunity for more of us, where we can, to play a bigger role in our communities. It doesn’t matter how much you can give, even if it’s just one hour.”
