Barnsley reserve shows birds and stars

A DAY of bird-watching followed by a night of star-gazing is on offer in Barnsley.

Staff from Dearne Valley nature reserve will lead visitors on a guided walk to see the reserve’s wonderful winter wildfowl come in to roost, before members of Mexborough and Swinton Astronomical Society offer a close-up view of the stars as part of the BBC’s Stargazing Live event.

Les Marsden, MSAS chairman, said: “This partnership has meant we can truly show the public the best the skies have to offer with two amazing natural spectacles.”

The RSPB and MSAS began working in partnership in 2010 and together have shown more than 1,000 people the wonders of nature on the reserve.

The event, on Saturday, January 12, runs from 3pm until 6.30pm. To book a place, call 01226 751593.
