Lee become’s the Reds’ second summer signing, with both winger Adam Hammill and defender Aidy White have signed two-year and one-year deals respectively.

Lee is the son of former England and Newcastle United midfielder Robert – and is a product of the Hammers’ youth system.

He has twice been on loan at Colchester United, most recently last season when he played 15 games for the U’s.

And the centre-forward has also had loan spells at Southend United, Luton Town and Blackpool.

Lee has played seven times for the Hammers and was keen to leave the club to play regular first team football.

The Reds are continuing to chase Plymouth Argyle centre-back Curtis Nelson and Walsall striker Tom Bradshaw, both of whom the club have had bids rejected for. Manchester United striker Ashley Fletcher and Charlton Athletic winger Callum Harriet both remain targets.

Meanwhile, defender White has praised Reds’ boss Paul Heckingbottom for helping him get his career back on track.

White was released by Rotherham United midway through last season, but impressed having been given a short-term deal.

“Hecky has been brilliant with me,” said White. “His positional sense is excellent, which helps because he was a left-back.

“I can’t thank him and [assistant manager] Tommy Wright enough. They’ve all been fantastic, the advice they have given me has been spot on.”

“All the lads just want to crack on now that they’re back from their holidays.

“The focus is get back, work hard and get going again. We’ve got a tough pre-season ahead.

“We’ve got plenty of games and I’m sure they’ll come thick and fast.

“Hopefully we can build momentum in pre-season and go into the season on a flyer.

“They’re all massive games next season no matter where we go. They’re all going to be hard games.

“I’m looking forward to going back to Leeds United and Rotherham United because they’re two of my previous clubs, but I’m looking forward to all the games.”
