Barnsley midfielder Josh Scowen concedes the lure of a Premier League club would be too good to turn down.

The energetic central midfielder is one of many Reds’ stars who are out of contract in the summer.

As well as Scowen, the current deals for Marley Watkins, Aidy White and Ryan Williams also expire at the end of the season.

The club have already seen talented trio Sam Winnall, Conor Hourihane and James Bree depart Oakwell - for other Championship outfits - in January.

John Stones, Mason Holgate and Alfie Mawson have all left South Yorkshire to feature in the bright lights of the Premier League in recent times, and Scowen believes only a fool would turn down that opportunity - should it arise.

“Being at Barnsley has been fantastic, but you’d be silly to turn down Premier League clubs,” stated Scowen. “It would be life changing for me and my family and it’s the best league in the world.

“Obviously you’d love to play there because it’s an amazing league and everyone wants to play at the highest level.”

Contract talks are still ongoing with the 23-year-old’s representatives.

Despite all that is going on behind the scenes, Scowen insisted he is fully focused on the job in hand.

“It’s still ongoing, but right now I’m a Barnsley player and I’ll continue to give 110 per cent every game,” said Scowen, who has scored 12 goals for the club.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here, last year was incredible and even this year’s been amazing.

“If a deal can be struck then that’s great, but it’s still ongoing.

“My agent talks to the club, comes back to me with what’s been said and I basically say yes or no.

“We’ll have to wait and see what happens in the summer.”
