Barnsley mum hits the right notes

Viewers of the BBC 1 singing show The Voice saw Janine Dyer, from Penistone, Barnsley, impress judges Boy George, Paloma Faith, Will.i.am and Ricky Wilson on Saturday night singing Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon and Garfunkel.

She then chose to have Ricky mentor her through the competition.

Janine, aged 38, is married to ex-footballer Bruce Dyer – who has played for Sheffield United, Barnsley, Doncaster Rovers, Rotherham United and Chesterfield. She says their four children, Josiah, Nathanael, Zachary and Amira Grace, are her biggest fans.

“They were really excited,” said Janine.

“I keep catching them watching it on playback. They think they are mini celebrities, especially because there was a clip of them on the show from when they came to support me at the audition. It was really good to watch it back. I was nervous about watching myself back, but they edited it really well and I’m happy with everything.

“You can’t be everybody’s cup of tea, but so far I’ve had lots of lovely comments from people who have watched the show. People do seem to be behind me, which is great.”
