The 19-year-old joined the Reds on a season-long deal from Liverpool last month after previously spending time at Coventry City last term.

Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp cut his stay at the Sky Blues short by recalling him to the Premier League club and handed him his first team debut against Exeter City in the FA Cup.

And the pacey winger, who has been at the Anfield academy since the tender age of seven, believes a good Championship campaign will set him up for the future.

“Breaking into the first team at Liverpool is my dream,” revealed Kent. “But I know I’ve got to take it in steps.

“Last season I was on loan at Coventry in League One and now I’m in the Championship.

“I’d like to think now I’m ready to show what I can do in the Championship to get me to the next level.”

The wide man impressed as the Reds picked up their first victory since returning to the second tier of English football by beating Derby County on Saturday.

He came close to opening his account at Oakwell as he left the post rattling from a powerful strike.

But he is hopeful he can break his scoring duck and get going for the Reds sooner rather than later.

After withstanding the might of promotion favourites Derby, Kent thinks his new side are prepared for anything thrown their way and they will take that belief into tomorrow’s game against Queens Park Rangers.

“I was a bit gutted about hitting the post, I was off celebrating but hopefully the goals will come in the end,” he said.

“The defence are doing everything to prevent goals and it’s up to us, the attacking players, to get forward, create chances and get goals.”

“It was a really difficult game, they tested us a lot defensively and it was a very physical game, very demanding but the boys battled through.”

“We managed to get two goals and see the game out,” Kent added.

“This is what we work for in training and tactically we were better.

“We were disappointed with the result against Ipswich so getting the three points made up for that disappointment.

“We showed a lot of determination to get two goals and not concede, so we’ll take it into the game against QPR.”
