Barnsley midfielder Josh Scowen has taken an angry potshot at the club having discovered he has lost his squad number to Adam Hammill.

Winger Hammill signed a new two-year deal earlier this week and the club were quick to post a promotional photo of the player with a No 7 shirt with his name on it.

But it was Scowen who wore the No 7 shirt last season and who tweeted: To go on Twitter and find out I’ve lost my squad number! Thanks @bfc_official “#nothappy”

Scowen has since removed the disgruntled post from his social media account, with it not yet known which squad number he will play under next season.

The 23-year-old joined the Reds on a two-and-a-half year deal in January 2015 and was a key performer for the club last season, played 43 times and scoring five goals.

Another player to use his Twitter account to make his feelings known was former Reds defender George Williams, released by the club this week along with George Smith.

Williams tweeted: ‘Gutted to say I won’t be a Red next season! It’s been an incredible journey, from playing in the under-21s, to going on loan to Barrow, to getting back in the Barnsley side. Winning the JPT and getting promotion to the Championship!

He added: ‘Made some great memories and now I look forward to my next chapter!! #YouRedz’.

Smith tweeted: ‘My 7 special years at Barnsley has come to an end. Barnsley will always be in my heart’.

Meanwhile, the club continue to pursue Walsall striker Tom Bradshaw and former Manchester United loan forward Ashley Fletcher, the latter who is now believed to have attracted the attention of Wolves as well as Leeds United.

The Reds have announced their pre-season schedule ahead of their first season back in the Championship for two years.

The club kick off away to Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday 9 July, with a total of 10 friendlies planned for July.

The highlight of the friendly fixture list is a home clash with Premier League side Hull City on Tuesday 26 July, although the rest of the club’s fixtures are against modest opposition respectively other than Cheltenham Town and Peterborough United.

As yet the club have not found a team to play on the weekend of the 23/24 July, but a fixture has been scheduled.
